Porter Police said the body
of a missing truck driver was located Saturday inside the cab of a semi
tractor trailer at Travel Centers of America South, 1441 W. U.S. 20.
According to police, at
10:02 a.m. a truck driver at the truck stop advised police that he believed
he located a semi that was reported missing on the Missing Driver Alert
Network’s Facebook page. Police said the driver showed pictures that matched
the tractor trailer and the numbers and advised he saw the trailer parked at
the truck stop earlier on Friday at 10:30 a.m.
The trailer was parked on
the access road that leads out to Worthington Drive, facing west, Police
said.
Police said there was no
response when they knocked on the door of the trailer. Police said they
opened the hood of the truck and could see someone lying in the back of the
cab.
Porter Fire arrived on
scene and advised they could see someone lying down in the rear of the
truck’s cab. Porter Police requested an Indiana State Police Motor Carrier
Unit for assistance in getting into the tractor.
An ISP officer was unable
to gain access into the semi but the owner of the company who owned the semi
advised it was okay for police to break the window, police said.
Police eventually gained
entry into the cab and said they found a male subject lying on the floor
whose body was cold and had no pulse. Police said the subject “appeared to
be frozen” due to “the extreme cold over the past week.”
Police said the subject had
been reported missing from Ontario, Canada and that no signs of foul play
were observed in the cab area.
The body was removed from
the truck’s cab by the Porter County Coroner’s Office.
Police said it is unknown
if the subject’s family has been notified and are not identifying the
subject at this time.
