A Merrillville woman who Porter police said had a blood-alcohol content more than three times the legal limit was arrested Sunday night on an assortment of charges related to driving while intoxicated after reportedly hitting another car.

Megan Watson, 35, of the 5700 block of Marshall Place, had a blood-alcohol content of .268, according to a report. The legal limit in Indiana is .08. She faces preliminary charges of a felony count of operating while intoxicated with a previous conviction, and three related misdemeanor counts.

Police were called around 11:48 p.m. Sunday to the area of League Lane and Woodlawn Avenue for a two-vehicle accident. Police found a white Toyota Celica and a blue Nissan Frontier in the eastbound lanes of Woodlawn Avenue at North Eighth Street. Airbags in both vehicles had deployed.

Watson, driver of the Toyota, told police she had just gotten off work in Lowell and was traveling to her boyfriend’s residence. She reportedly told police she didn’t see the Nissan and failed to yield the right of way as she crossed Woodlawn Avenue.

Police said Watson allegedly showed signs of impairment. They transported her to a local emergency room for medical clearance and treatment of a small laceration about her right eye before taking her to Porter County Jail.
