The Porter County Parks Board meets at 6 p.m. in the commissioners chambers of the Porter County Administration Building, 155 Indiana Ave., Valparaiso.

Sunday, Aug. 8

St. John’s United Church, 225 W. Lincoln Ave., Chesterton, will host its free community dinner from 3:45 to 5 p.m., as a drive-thru to pick up packaged meals. Enter from Lincoln Street only. Monday, Aug. 9

The Duneland School Board will meet in regular Session at 6:00 pm, at the Administration Center, 601 W. Morgan Ave., Chesterton.

The Burns Harbor Town Council will hold a budget workshop at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall, 1240 N. Boo Road.

Wednesday, Aug. 11

Duneland Seniors meet from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. every Wednesday in the community building in Hawthorne Park in Porter. For information, call Sue Keiser 219-926-3554

Duneland Schools Superintendent Chip Pettit invites students, parents and the community to come and learn more about the Long-Term Capital Improvement projects. This will be an opportunity for all stakeholders to provide input and feedback as the school corporation moves forward with these projects in 2022-2025. The second community forum takes place at 6 p.m. in the Chesterton Middle School Auditorium, Entrance 2, 651 W. Morgan Ave., Chesterton.

Thursday, Aug. 12

At 9:30 am until noon at the Porter County Expo Center 215 E. Division Road, Valparaiso, women who own land in Porter County are invited to reserve a chair at a special women’s gathering, “The Family Forest” to learn how to best manage their wooded ground with assistance from state and federal government programs. The free program is sponsored by the Porter County Soil & Water Conservation District.

Michigan City Music Festival presents a live, in-person concert at 1st Presbyterian Church, Michigan City at 7p.m. Free tickets are available at www.mccmf.org. Those who are unable to attend the concert in person can log in to YouTube and search for “MC Chamber Music Festival Orbovich.”

Friday, Aug. 13

An exhibit opening for “Nowhere But Here” by watercolorist Julie Kasniunas takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Depot Museum and Art Gallery, 525 S. Broadway. The event is free. For more information on this and other gallery details, go to bsdepot.org or call (219) 229-1483.

Prairie Magic Music Festival, Sunset Hill Farm County Park, Valparaiso, at Meridiam Road and U.S. 6, featuring headliner Shemeika Copeland; Sarah Shook and the Disarmers; Crystal Bowersox; and Jackie Venson. Tickets, at $40, are available at Eventbrite.com. Kids 12 and under are free and students with a valid ID can get tickets for $10. Gates open at noon.
