Chesterton Plan Commission to resume public hearing Thursday on Richter Street PUD

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton Plan Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the town hall.

At that meeting planners will resume the continued public hearing on John Nekus’ petition for a planned unit development ordinance on 11.28 acres located west of the Chesterton Post Office and east of the Westchester South subdivision, immediately south of Richter Street.

Nekus is seeking to build 62 paired patio homes and three single-family “cottage homes” on the site.

In December, during the public-comment portion of the public hearing, residents of both Westchester South and Richter Street remonstrated against the PUD, calling it too dense, suggesting it would aggravate stormwater issues, and wondering why Nekus wouldn’t be installing a sidewalk on Richter Street itself.

Planners did not vote on the Nekus petition but instead continued the public hearing, so that scrivener’s changes could be made to the planning documents.

Springdale PUD

A public hearing will also be held on the primary plat of the Springdale planned unit development, located immediately west of the Abercrombie Woods subdivision south of 1050N.

Springdale would consist of 71 R-1 and R-2 units--R-1 toward the east, R-2 in the center--and then commercial sites at the west end.

Double Hotel

In old business, Lake Erie Land Company will be seeking approval of the secondary plat for the double-hotel project at Coffee Creek Center: an 87-room, three-story Fairfield Inn & Suites; and a 90-room, four-story Holiday Inn Express, located north of the Culver’s restaurant.
