Trojan girls fall to No 5 Crown Point

The Chesterton girls basketball team dropped a 56-22 Duneland Athletic Conference decision to undefeated and No. 5 ranked Crown Point on Thursday.

The visiting Bulldogs jumped out to a 14-3 lead after one quarter and built a 38-9 halftime lead before cruising to the victory.

Ashley Craycraft led the Trojans with six points, while Nalani Malackowski added five points.

Rounding out the scoring were Marney Sisson (3 points), Sydney Balas (2 points), Molly Slatcoff (2 points), Haley Moore (2 points) and Emma Schmidt (2 points).

Chesterton hit on just 6-of-35 shots (17 percent) from the field and were 1-of-8 (13 percent) from 3-point range.

Crown Point was led by Jessica Carrothers with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Trojans return to the floor next Friday when they travel to Andrean to take on the 59ers. The JV game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
