CHS Girls tennis team sweeps LaLumiere

The Chesterton girls tennis team improved to 1-1 on the season with a 5-0 victory over LaLumiere on Wednesday.

In singles, Peyton Martinson started the run with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1, while Milena Veltri won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2. Leah Rochford completed the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3.

In doubles, Hailee Ellenwood and Olivia Vesling had little trouble in picking up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1. At No. 2, Libby Gibson and Christian Charlson won 6-0, 6-0.

The Trojans return to the court tonight when they host Lake Central beginning at 4:15 p.m.

AT CHESTERTON

Singles -- 1. Peyton Martinson won 6-1, 6-2; 2. Milena Veltri won 6-4, 6-0; 3. Leah Rochford won 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles -- 1. Hailee Ellenwood/Olivia Vesling won 6-0, 6-0; 2. Libby Gibson/Christian Charlson won 6-0, 6-0.

Record: Chesterton 1-1.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 8, LaLumiere 1

The Chesterton junior varsity picked up an easy 8-1 win over LaLumiere on Wednesday.

In singles, Emily Haiduc, Maria Schmahl and Rina Hector all won in straight sets.

In doubles, winning duos included Rachel Byrnside/Lily Putchaven (No. 1), Greta Schmahl/Sydney Balas (No. 2), Lauren Sensibaugh/Lindsey Tucker (No. 3), Sophia Winski/Kassidy Crowell (No. 4) and Kayla Whelan/Lily Putchaven (No. 6).
