ISP: Driver child ejected from SUV in I-94 rollover

A motorist and a 4-year-old child were ejected from their SUV on Wednesday after it rolled on I-94 near Portage, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 7:35 p.m. Dashalon Jacques Lowe, 23, of Gary, was westbound on I-94 when, just west of the Portage exit, one of her tires blew out, causing her GMC Envoy to leave the roadway to the right and then to roll into and out of a ditch before coming to rest upright on its wheels on Southport Road.

During the rollover Lowe and a 4-year-old boy who was in the rear seat were ejected, police said. The boy sustained injuries to his leg, while Lowe was airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill., with life-threatening injuries. police said.

A 2-year-old girl in a child safety seat in the rear remained inside the vehicle, as did Lowe’s front-seat passenger, Lorenzo D. Campbell, 23, of Gary, both of whom escaped injury, police said.
