No criminal charge will be filed against the person who shot a man to death on March 17 at a residence in the 2500 block of Dombey Road.

Porter County Prosecuting Attorney Gary Germann announced this morning that, following a lengthy investigation, it is his determination that the person who fired the fatal shots was acting in self-defense.

The victim has been identified as Jamie Vincent.

Germann’s statement in full:

“On March 17, 2019, the Portage Police Department responded to a 911 call indicating a shooting had occurred at 2565 Dombey Road in Portage, Ind. Jamie Vincent was found dead with the cause of death multiple gunshot wounds. A complete, thorough, and professional investigation was conducted by multiple members of the Portage Police Department led by Det. Kurt Biggs. After a review of all of the police reports and a conference with Det. Biggs, I have determined that during an altercation between Mr. Vincent and a second party, the second party suffered a potentially fatal stab wound. The second party then tragically shot Mr. Vincent in self-defense. In the absence of prompt medical attention, the second party may have themselves died because of the severity of the stab wound. As a result, no criminal charges will be filed in this case.”
