DNR: Apparent drowning at the Hammond Marina

Indiana Conservation Officers are conducting a death investigation after a man failed to resurface after falling into the water at the Hammond Marina on Saturday, the Department of Natural Resources said.

According to DNR, at approximately 11:45 p.m. Harold Daniels, 59, of Chicago, fell into the water along the boat docks at Hammond Marina and never surfaced.

Members of Hammond Fire Department and the Lake County Marine Unit were able to recover Daniels and transport him to Franciscan Health Hospital in Hammond, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
