Alvin York, age 77 of Chesterton, passed away on January 31, 2019.

He was born on October 11, 1942, to Doyle and Evelyn York, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Tom) Maldonado of Valparaiso; his grandchildren: Jeff Henry of Valparaiso, Hailey Hapchuck of West Virginia, Sommer Maldonado of Valparaiso, and Kyra Maldonado of Valparaiso; and by his siblings: Gene Arthur York, Yakima, WA; Mary Jo Salmon, Jackson, Louisiana; Don Ray York, Westville, Indiana; Mabel L. York Bernth, Granger, Indiana; Max E. York, Belvedere, Illinois; Ruth E. York Hilbert, Batesville, Arkansas; Dean B. York, Rockford, Illinois; Neil O. York, South Bend, Indiana; Janet York Marquez, Los Angeles, California; Gaye York Hightower, South Bend, Indiana; Veda York, Westville, Indiana, and Diana York McQueen, Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

He is also preceded in death by his wife, Mary and by his siblings Glen A. York, Paul Vestle York, Gale Lee York Fisher, and Rudy A. York.

Alvin was a member of the Church of Nazarene in Valparaiso.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at 12 p.m., at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S 2nd St., Chesterton, IN. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery.
