James H. Olson, age
88 of Chesterton passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019.
He was born on May
16, 1930, in Gary, Indiana to Louis and Stella Olson.
On May 13, 1954, he
married Lorelei Jones Sutley and her beautiful young children, Sherry and
Clark Sutley.
He was preceded in
death by his wife, Lorelei; daughter, Sherry; and grandson, Scott Needler.
He is survived by
son, Clark Sutley; daughters, Carol (Aubrey) Schulz, Laura (Carlos) Hualde,
eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; brother Don (Sandy)
Olson; brother-in-law Bill (Peggy) Jones and companion, Dorothy Meyers.
He graduated from
Chesterton High School in 1948 and Valparaiso University in 1952. He was
drafted in the army during the Korean War and rose from Private to 1st
Lieutenant in the Artillery.
He retired from
Inland Steel (Mittal) after 35 years of service. He was a system analyst who
designed and installed many computers.
While in college he
belonged to TEKE fraternity. He had a deep interest in music. He sang in his
high school choir, a barbershop chorus, and was a member of his church choir
from age 16-86. He also played drums for the Westchester Highlanders
Scottish Band.
He enjoyed bowling,
gardening and lawn care. He was a loyal and dedicated CHS Trojans Football,
Cubs and Bears fan.
Services will be
held on Thursday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church,
2050 W. 1100 N., Chesterton. A luncheon will immediately follow the services
in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers,
Jim has requested that donations be made to the local Meals on Wheels.
