Prayer service Thursday for Michael Allen Sabocik

Michael Allen Sabocik, age 72 of Chesterton, IN, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2019.

He was born on April 17, 1947 in Gary, IN, to Michael John and Elvera (Bailey) Sabocik.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Marilyn Dartz Sabocik; daughter, Katherine (Danen) Sabocik-Holmgren; grandchildren, Michelle Holmgren and Madison Holmgren; his mother, Elvera Sabocik; two brothers, William (Linda) Sabocik and Thomas Sabocik; brother in law, Edward Dartz and his wife Dr. Carol Dartz; nephew, Adam (Allison) Sabocik; great-nephew, Aiden Sabocik; aunt and Godmother, Ann Sabocik; special friend, Chris Farabaugh; and many cousins, extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by Father, Michael John Sabocik.

Michael was a 1965 graduate of Andrean High School. After graduating from Indiana University, Michael became a social worker at the Lake County Department of Public Welfare where he met his wife and many lifelong friends. He then worked as a Letter Carrier for the Chesterton Branch of the United States Postal Service and retired following 34 years of service, most of which was spent delivering mail in Dune Acres. He was a Union President of Branch 4800 of the National Association of Letter Carriers for 15 years. He was a huge admirer of Bob Dylan and had his entire collection of records, vinyl and CDs. He was also an avid fan of the Chicago Blackhawks and player Marian Hossa, a fellow Czechoslovakian.

The family asks you to please join them for a prayer service led by Michael's cousin, Father Dennis Michael Hand Sabocik, to remember our loving husband and father, Michael to be held on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Katherine and Danen's home with luncheon to follow. Please contact the family for more information.

Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304, is assisting with Michael's final arrangements.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Michael's honor may be made to the charity of your choice.
