Clayton R. Harris,
age 77 of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away on April 15, 2014.
He was born on
December 29, 1936, in Kokomo, Ind., to William and Monna (Cowell) Harris.
Clayton is survived
by his beloved wife Donna (Ballenger) Harris of Valparaiso; children
Kimberly Harris of Valparaiso, Julie (Wayne) Withington of Florida, Carl
Prott of Portage, and Richard Prott of Portage, Terri (Matt) Johnson of
Portage, and Shady “Harris” Solomin; siblings Janice and Louie Pinkerton of
Chesterton, Karen Schultz of LaPorte, Joellen and Kenneth Batruff of
Arkansas, Billy and Judy Harris of Hobart, Norita and Robert Gosvenor of
Burns Harbor, Chancy and Joni Harris of Portage, Kathy and Mike Lucus of
Chesterton, Jeff and Lori Harris of Chesterton, Lisa and Michael DeGarmo of
Westville; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and beloved dogs,
Samantha and Sarah.
He was preceded in
death by his parents, sister Glenda Martin, infant brother and sister,
Delores and Kenneth and beloved dog Shorty.
Clayton was a
United States Army Veteran and retired from J & L Steel with 30 years of
service. Upon retirement he started his own business, Global Equipment
Repair, and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 150. He was a NASCAR
fan and loved to travel. Clayton enjoyed going on cruises with his wife and
loved to ride his motorcycle. He was an all-around nice guy who never knew a
stranger. He would do what he could to help anyone in need.
Funeral services
will be held Saturday, April 19, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Edmonds and Evans
Funeral Home, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, Ind., with Brother Ronnie Cox
officiating.
Visitation will be
held on Friday, April 18, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
