Arthur
W. “Bill” Green, age 78 of Chesterton, Ind., passed away Friday April
5, 2013 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso.
He
was born January 6, 1935 in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, to Arthur H. and
Blanche McCready Green, both of whom preceded him in death.
Bill
is survived by his wife Dolores “Diane” Green of Chesterton, a
daughter Catherine Du Charme of Lake Mary, Fla., step-daughters Jeannie
(James) Cherkis of Chesterton and Cheryl Smith of Rolling Prairie, Ind.
Also
surviving are his grandchildren Ryan and Erik Du Charme, Erin, Jim,
Michael and Megan Cherkis, Josh Kubiak, Marty (Heather) Kubiak and Sophia
Wisniewski, and Louis Daniel (Maria) Mendez, great-grandchildren Louis and
Isaiah Mendez and Paisley Cherkis. Also, his sisters Betty (Robert) Owen
of Edgewood, Kentucky, and Megan (Peter) Reynolds of Crown Point, Ind.,
survive.
Bill
was preceded in death by his parents, his children John Michael, Lori Lee
and Christie Ann and a grandson David Cherkis.
He
was a member of CrossPointe Christian Church in Chesterton, a graduate of
Lew Wallace High School class of 1952. He was a former member of the
Miller Dunes American Post and the Glen Park Eagles. Bill was employed by
USS Steel Gary Tube Works as a field engineer and in his later years the
Indian Oak Resort and Spa, Westchester Library and the Westchester YMCA.
On May 6, 1952, Bill joined the Army, serving 23 years achieving the rank
of Captain, the last 4 years he was a Construction Surveillance Officer
for the Army Munition Command.
Funeral
services will be held tonight, Monday, April 8, at the White-Love Funeral
Home 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton, at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Tim Wanless
officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 3:30 p.m.
until time of service at the funeral home.
In
lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to the CrossPointe Christian
Church and the VNA Hospice, Valparaiso.
