Rudy Teagarden dies at age 80

Rudy Teagarden, of Lake Ozark, Missouri, formerly of Chesterton, Ind., died Friday, February 22, 2013 in Fort Myers, Florida. He was 80.

He was born January 12, 1933 in Gary, Ind., the son of Harold and Anna (Kienzynski) Teagarden, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Louise (Drummond nee Walton).

Also surviving are his children Laureen (Scott) Fanning of Lone Jack, Mo.; Richard Teagarden of Cameron, Mo., Steven Teagarden of Prescott, Ariz. and their mother Patricia (Smith) Sondergaard of Kincaid, Kan.; his brother Harold “Arvid” (Niki) Teagarden of Plano, Texas; nephews James Teagarden, Alex Teagarden and niece Christina (Stephen) Baldwin, all of Plano, Texas; step-children Steven Drummond, Overland Park, Kan.; Kathleen Weatherson, Las Vegas, Nev. and Dan Drummond, Englewood, Colo.; grandchildren Heather (Augie) Guerrero; Melissa (Justin) Hickman; Jacob (Sharon) Teagarden; Zach Teagarden, Jed Teagarden; step-grandchildren Lane Weatherson, Landon Weatherson; Andrew Bougher and Christopher Bougher and nine great-grandchildren.

He is survived by several cousins, including Ed Gustafson of Chesterton, Ind.

Also preceding him in death was a step-daughter, Nancy (Drummond) Bougher.

Rudy was a Class of 1951 graduate of Chesterton High School. He worked for US Steel in Gary from 1951 to 1956; served in the US Army during the Korean War; and worked for Amoco Oil in Chicago and Kansas City, retiring in 1988.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on March 1, 2013 at Our Lady of Light Church in Fort Myers, Fla.
