Lisa
Smith, age 50 of Chesterton, Ind., passed away peacefully at her home on
Saturday, April 6, 2013, after a long battle with breast cancer.
She
was born February 24, 1963 in Cincinnati (Mariemont), Ohio, to Henry L.
and Evelyn R. (Meisberger) Griffith, both of whom preceded her in death.
She
is survived by her beloved daughters, Katherine Helene and Hannah Jean
Smith, both of Chesterton, Ind., their father, Andrew D. Smith of
Chesterton; brother, Thomas (Suzy) Griffith of Daytona, Fla.; sisters,
Carol (Jack) Gallegos of Cincinnati, Ohio, Julie Nordstrom of Denver,
Colo., Mary (David) Otis of Atlanta, Ga., Tina (Greg) Walsh of Park Ridge,
Ill.; in laws, Larry and Colleen Smith of Bowling Green, Ohio; and many
nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Lisa
was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church. She graduated from Bowling
Green State University in 1985, with a degree in Technical Writing. While
attending college, she was a member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority- Alpha Rho
Chapter. She worked in Ohio, New York and North Carolina before settling
in Chesterton in 1992. She previously worked as the Publications assistant
for the Law Review and Dean’s administrative assistant at Valparaiso
University School of Law. She was most recently employed in Human
Resources at Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Michigan City, Ind.
A
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
directly at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 237 E. 1200 N., Chesterton,
Ind., with Father Thomas Kincaid officiating. Burial will follow at
Chesterton Cemetery.
Visitation
will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Edmonds and
Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
Memorial
donations may be made to the family, to be used for Lisa’s children’s
education or to St. Francis Episcopal Church.
