Ed Stefanko, age 79 of Michigan City, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 after a lengthy illness with brain cancer.

Survivors include his wife Sally Pagels Stefanko of 56 years. His sons include Jim (Stephanie) of Porter County and three grandsons: Nathan, Nicholas and Ryan. Other sons include Paul (Sandy) of Union Mills, Peter of Wanatah, Mark of Porter County and Mike of Porter County.

Preceding him in death include: brothers Joe of Burns Harbor and George of Florida, as well as sisters, Helen and Mary and his parents John and Mary.

A special “thank-you” to Judy and Ray, special friends who helped so much the past ten months.

He worked at US Steel for 35 years before retiring. He then had his own Bail Bonding business for 15 years. He enjoyed reading, fishing and gardening. He was a member of Calumet Lodge #379 for over 50 years, the Scottish Rite and a member of the Shrine. Ed honorably served his country for six years in the Army Reserves and the National Guard.

A Masonic Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014, at 7 p.m. from White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton, IN. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3 p.m. until time of funeral service. Cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2211 N Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL, 60707.
