Joanne Ray service set for Friday

Joanne E. Ray, 76 of Milton Freewater, Oregon, formerly of Chesterton, Ind., passed away at her home on Saturday, June 23, 2012.

She is survived by her children Debbie (Bill) Burgess of Chesterton, Laura Ray of Milton Freewater, Ore., Christine Mecca of Cedar Lake, Ind., and Frank Ray Jr. of Tucumcari, New Mexico; grandchildren Mark (Pam) Olson, of Chesterton, Kim (Omar) Sanchez and Amanda (Nick) Morgan, of Walla Walla, Wash., Emily (Evan) Murff and Bryan Mecca of Chesterton, Dakota Ray and Indiana Ray of Milton Freewater, Ore., and great-grandchildren Alexa, Madison, Hunter, Aiden, Gabriel, Hannah, Mateo and Parker.

She was preceded in death by her husband Francis L. Ray Sr. on March 2, 2008.

Joanne was a past member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Chesterton and a present member St. Francis of Assisi in Milton Freewater, Ore. She was a member of the American Legion Post 170 and past President of the Women’s Auxiliary beginning in 1966 for a total of 10 years. Joanne and her husband Frank were the first couple to share the titles of Commander and President presiding at the same time. Her hobbies were sewing and crafting.

Joanne was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

A Memorial Service will be on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton, Ind., with Father Jerry Schweitzer officiating. Burial of Joanne and her husband Frank’s cremains will take place at Chesterton Cemetery at a later date.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Memorials may be given to the Porter County Cancer Society in Joanne’s name.
