Charles “David” Kara, age 64 of Chesterton, passed away Saturday, April 21,
2012 at the VNA Hospice Center Valparaiso.
He was born on January 23, 1948 in Valparaiso, Ind., to Charles Joseph and
June Fern Williams Kara, both of whom preceded him in death.
On August 27, 1977 in Chesterton he married Dawn “Suzi” Ward Kara, who
survives in Chesterton.
He is also survived by his children, Mark (Linda) Kara of Hobart, Ind.,
Kevin (Vickie) Kara of Portage, Eric Kara of Chesterton, Allison Kara of
Plymouth, Ind., and Megan Kara of Chesterton; grandchildren Evan and Kyleigh
Kara; siblings Carol Bragg of North Carolina, Judy (Jim) Chaplin of
Chesterton, Thomas Kara of Missouri and Paul (Libby) Kara of Michigan.
David is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law Carolyn (Jerry)
Staff of Chesterton, Michael (Susan) Ward of Chesterton, Patricia Warren of
Michigan City, Mary (Dan) Haley of Chesterton, Edward (Marge) Ward of New
Jersey, and Gerald (Brenda) Ward of Chesterton, along with many nieces and
nephews.
David was preceded in death by his sister Patricia Kara.
He was retired from Bethlehem Steel as a General Foreman with 34 years-
service. David belonged to the Moose Lodge 1623 and the St. Joe’s Young
Men’s Club. He was an avid bowler, golfer and coached girls’ softball.
Woodworking was one of his favorite hobbies along with old cars: painting,
fixing and working on them.
A Memorial Service will be on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at
White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton, Ind.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 until time of service
at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the VNA Hospice in David’s name.
