Virginia Hogie dies at 81

Virginia G. Hogie, 81, of Bremen, passed away Monday in Bremen Health Care Center.

She was born on December 30, 1929, in Chesterton, Indiana, to the late Stephen and Rose (Gallas) Baczkowski.

On March 19, 1949, she married Max R. Jeffrey, Sr., who preceded her in death on October 1, 1969. On November 28, 1981, she married Everett Hogie, who preceded her in death on February 5, 2009.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Cheryl L. (Mark) Levy of Knoxville, Tennessee; her three sons, Vincent (Starlene) Jeffrey of Bremen, Max R. (Diana) Jeffrey, Jr. of Mooresville, Ind., and Thomas M. (Deborah) Jeffrey of South Bend; a step daughter, Marian (Frank) Appleton and Brian (Judy) Hogie, both of South Bend; grandchildren, Ryan and Cassandra Levy, and Vincent, Jr., Robert, Heide, Shad, Drew, Max, III, Craig, Timothy, Paige and Tyler Jeffrey; and step grandchildren, Ethan, Elsie and Erica Hogie, and Emily and David Appleton.

Along with her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Piechnik and by three brothers, Florian “John,” Joseph and Frank Baczkowski.

She was a member of the Women of Moose Lodge on Lincoln Way and St. John the Baptist Church. She loved to sew and make quilts.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday December 21, 2011, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed in 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Thursday December 22, 2011, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
