Service Thursday for Helenjean Goulding

Helenjean Bartz LaForce Goulding, 91, longtime resident of Hinsdale, Illinois, formerly of Valparaiso, Indiana passed away Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Hinsdale Hospital in Hinsdale, Ill.

She was born October 4, 1919 in Valparaiso to Asa Irvin and Ethel Mae (Marshall) Bartz.

In 1947 she married Harry B. LaForce at the First Presbyterian Church in Valparaiso.

They had two daughters, Laura Jane LaForce (Russell) Rice and Anne Marie LaForce Baker (Dr. James D.) Hurst.

Eight years after Harry’s death, Helenjean married Byron W. Goulding. They had 11 wonderful years together before his passing.

In addition to her daughters, she is survived by one step-son Stephen Goulding, one step-daughter Susan Lawson, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Helenjean graduated from Valparaiso High School and St. Mary’s at Notre Dame. Upon graduation she taught Chemistry at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Gary.

Helenjean was a member of Tri Kappa and was past president of Infant Welfare.

When Laura, her daughter and a teacher, had needy children in class Helenjean would send funds to buy children shoes, glasses and other items.

She loved a good joke and she loved to play practical jokes on those she loved.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 6 at the First Presbyterian Church in Valparaiso.

Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Her family has requested that memorial contributions be made to VNA Horton Hospice Center in Valparaiso or the First Presbyterian Church also in Valparaiso.
