Service set for Mildred 'Millie' Chellberg

Mildred A. (Millie) Chellberg, formerly of Chesterton, passed away at Aldersgate Village Health Care Center in Topeka, Kansas on Saturday, April 16, 2011. She was 102.

Mildred was born in Chesterton on Jan. 7, 1909 to Charles and Christena (Erickson) Holm. She graduated from Chesterton High School in 1927. During and after graduation, she worked in her parent’s store, Calumet Grocery. On June 28, 1936, she married Hilmer Chellberg, who preceded her in death on August 25, 1985. She also was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Clarence Holm, Stella Moline, Juliette Swanson, Raymond Holm and Roy Holm.

She was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and belonged to the Dorcas Circle. She also belonged to Baileytown Neighbors Club and the Chesterton Women’s Club. Mildred moved to Topeka, Kansas in July, 1999 to be near her son and daughter-in-law and family. She lived at Atria Hearthstone Retirement Community until October, 2010. She attended First Lutheran Church in Topeka, Kansas.

Mildred is survived by her son Lowell (wife Lorraine) of Topeka; grandsons David (Sarah) Chellberg of Overland Park, Kansas and Steve (Kelly) Chellberg of Lawrence, Kansas; great granddaughters Addison, Kelsey and Ella Chellberg; sister-in-law Edith Holm of Valparaiso; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 23 at 11 a.m. from Augsburg Lutheran Church, 100 N Mineral Springs Road, Porter with Pastor Erik Bernth officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 22 at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Augsburg Lutheran Church or Hospice Care of Kansas.
