Rose E. Valpatic service set

Porter resident Rose E. Valpatic passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Hamilton Grove Communities in New Carlisle, Ind. She was 91.

She was born April 23, 1920 in Porter to August and Emma (Peterson) Nelson, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 21, 1939, she married Noah E. Hood, who preceded her in death on March 9, 1943. On Dec. 18, 1947 in Chesterton, she married Anton Louis Valpatic, who preceded her in death on May 1, 1993.

Rose is survived by her son, Dennis (wife Connie) Hood; daughter in law, Diane Valpatic; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Keith Valpatic; great granddaughter, Brenna Rose Hood; brothers Morris, Herbert, Maynard, Oliver and Arthur; and sister Florence (Roy) Salmander.

Rose was a lifelong area resident and a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church. She was retired from the Duneland School Corporation, where she worked as a cook. She also worked for National Tube Mill during World War II.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 9 at 11:30 a.m. at Augsburg Lutheran Church, 100 N. Mineral Springs Road, Porter, with Rev. Erik Bernth officiating. Burial will follow at Augsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 8, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, and also from 10:30 a.m. to the time of service at 11:30 a.m. at Augsburg Lutheran Church.
