Dolores 'Rusty' Johnson dies at age 89

Dolores “Rusty” Johnson, age 89 of Chesterton, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2011 in Valparaiso.

She was born September 11, 1921 in Chicago, Ill. to John and Catherine (Karling) LaForge.

She is survived by her step daughter, Jane Ellen (Mel) Bair; step son, Carl W. (Donna) Johnson; grandchildren, Melonie (Thomas) Marchak, Steven Bair (partner, Michael Snyder), Kimberly (Buril) Smith and Kirk Johnson; great grandchildren, Zach, Melissa, Kelsey, Elena and Tyler Marchak, and Krystyn, Jessica and Josh Smith; and cousins, Dr. Thomas (Trudy) Huberty, William (Connie) Huberty, Robert (Karrie) Huberty and James Huberty.

She was preceded in death by her parents; special friend, Agnes Olson; husband, Carl W. Johnson Jr. and grandson, Carl “Chip” W. Johnson IV.

Rusty graduated from Immaculata High School in Chicago and went to business college. She worked for many years in the field of advertising in downtown Chicago.

On June 2, 1979 she married Carl in Chicago, moving to Chesterton in 1986.

Rusty loved to fish and she enjoyed dining with friends, ballroom dancing, walking the beach and feeding the birds.

To her family and many friends, she was known as a caring, wonderful lady who was always smiling with a positive attitude towards life.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 14, at 11:00 a.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, with Father Kevin McCarthy officiating.

Burial will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chicago, Ill.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 13, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home.
