Alice J. Dranger, age 88, of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away October 20, 2011
at her home.
She was born August 27, 1923 in Chicago, Ill., to Anthony J. and Theresa A.
(Jakubczak) Buza, both of whom preceded her in death.
She graduated from Bowen High School in 1941. She was married to T/Sgt.
Steve T. Dranger on June 12, 1943.
They previously resided in Oaklawn, Chicago and South Holland, Illinois.
Alice is survived by her sons, Thomas Dranger (wife, Maureen Garry), Phillip
Dranger (wife, Jean Sutherland), Mark Dranger (wife, Paula Kavadas);
daughter, Phyllis Dranger; grandchildren, Stephanie, Heather, Tad,
Elizabeth, James, Stephen, Alice, Andrea, Erin and Theresa; 10
great-grandchildren; nieces, Carolyn Laurinas (husband, Kenneth) and Rita
Ann Moulton and nephew/Godson, Jerome Badeusz (wife, Patricia).
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Steve T. Dranger in 1971 and
husband, Joseph Navta in 1992; brothers, Lee Buza and Harry Buza and sister,
Dorothy Badeusz.
Alice was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed sports and
was a die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. Alice was active
in the YMCA in South Chicago, where she taught swimming. She was President
of the Mendel High School Mothers Club in 1961 and President of the National
Association of Banking Women (NABW) in 1987. She was a Vice President at
South Holland Trust and Savings Bank and retired in 1991. Later, after
moving to Chesterton, Indiana, she was actively employed at the Duneland
YMCA.
Mass will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick
Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, Ind. Private family burial
will follow at Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood, Ill.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00
p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
