Services set for Joseph Himden

Joseph “Joe” Allen Himden, the brother of a Chesterton resident, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010. A resident of Visalia, Calif., he was 55.

He was born August 9, 1955, in Gary, the son of Hamden and Marian Himden, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Gaylynne Himden of Visalia; two daughters, Michelle Himden of New York City, N.Y., and Christy Himden of Redding, Calif.; a brother, Kenneth Himden of Portage; and a sister, Marilyn Magnuson of Chesterton.

Joe worked as an elementary school teacher for J.F.K. Academy in Dinuba, Calif., for many years, as well as in Milwaukee, Wis. He previously worked as a youth pastor in Claremore, Okla. Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Gateway Church of Visalia. He was a passionate Christian and enjoyed playing guitar, listening to all kinds of music, his students, photography and spending time with family and friends. He will be best remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, and dear friend. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral services, the Rev. Rick Henderson officiating, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at Chesterton Southern Baptist Church, 213 S. 19th St., Chesterton. Interment will be held at a later date. www.EE-FH.com
