Service set for Thelma Young

Thelma J. Young of Chesterton passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Porter Hospital Valparaiso Campus. She was 87.

She was born on July 10, 1922 in Medaryville, Ind., to Grover and Hilda (Swisher) Dietrich. Along with her husband Jack, Thelma owned True Value Hardware in Chesterton. She was a dedicated business owner and always stayed up to date on current events. She was an excellent cook and was very creative, and she liked gardening and loved her cats.

Thelma is survived by daughter Joanne (husband Charlie) Van Cleef of Chesterton; brother James (wife Dorothy) Dietrich of Granger, Ind.; grandchildren Holly (Mike) Dersch and David Baum of Chesterton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John ‘Jack’ Young, and brothers Ralph and Damon Dietrich.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 27 at 11 a.m. at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton with Pastor Allen Wright officiating. Interment will be in Chesterton Cemetery. A visitation will be on Wednesday May 26, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
