Services set for Evelyn Fieffer

Chesterton resident Evelyn Mae Fieffer, 88, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at White County Memorial Hospital.

She was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Battlecreek, Mich., the daughter of Charles L. and Rose C. (Taylor) Barney, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Theodore A. (Cathy) Fieffer of Demotte and Thomas D. (Dawn) Fieffer of Valparaiso; three daughters, Arlene Foster and Mae Simms, both of Monticello, and Shirley (Sam) McMeans of LaPorte; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Evelyn was a homemaker, a member of Porter United Methodist Church and of the Philanthians at the church, and belonged to the hen club and formerly to the Daughters of the American Revolution. She originated Karry Out Kitchen Restaurant on 15th Street in Chesterton and ran it from 1957 to 1962.

A memorial gathering is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at Porter United Methodist Church. Burial will be private at McCool Cemetery in Portage.

Arrangements are under the direction of Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway in Chesterton.
