Service set for Dennis L. Highsmith

Chesterton resident Dennis L. Highsmith passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at his residence. He was 54.

Born on July 15, 1955 in Gary, he was the son of Robert and Shirley (Davis) Highsmith. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Mahoney of Merrillville; daughter Shannon Highsmith of Chesterton; brothers David Highsmith (wife Glennda) of Zachary, La., Donald Highsmith (Karen) of Crown Point, and Jerry Highsmith (Debbie) of Chesterton; and his grandson, Tyler Richart.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert, and his brother Wayne Highsmith.

Dennis worked at U.S. Steel as a millwright for more than 30 years before retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Steelworkers Union Local 1066. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 170, the Moose Lodge and the NRA.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Cremation will follow. A visitation will be on Saturday from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. www.ee-fh.com
