Nicola C. Manuzzi dies at 71

Nicola C. Manuzzi, age 71, of Chesterton, IN passed away on Monday, June 1, 2009 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus.

He was born December 18, 1937 in Gary, the son of Vito and Rose (Vizza) Manuzzi.

On May 29, 1965 in Gary, he married Darlene Popp, who survives.

He is survived also by son, Timothy (Margaret) Manuzzi of Indianapolis; daughter, Tamara (Jerry) Price of Chesterton; and three grandchildren, Anthony, Robbie and Sam and his dogs, Gizmo and Hunter.

Nicola was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a motor inspector for U.S. Steel Local 1066, retiring in 1982. Nicola was a former member of the Chesterton Lions Club, he helped with the Sandpiper’s Drifters music groups and band boosters at C.H.S. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and helped with the Table Of Plenty at the church. He also helped with Duneland Rebuilding Together and was a State Park Little League coach. Nicola was a huge Cubs fan and an avid golfer and most of all a great Dad and wonderful Grandpa.

A Mass of Christian Burial, Father James Meade officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd. in Chesterton. Interment will be in Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, with a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
