Harriet M. Scarborough dies at 90

Harriet M. Scarborough, 90 years old of Union Mills, died Friday, April 10, 2009 in Golden Living Center Fountainview.

She was born June 25, 1918 in Blackstone, Ill. the daughter of Fred and Mary (Conaty) Ames, both of whom preceded her in death.

On March 14, 1936 in Knox, she married John Scarborough who preceded her in death in 1986.

She is survived by five sons, John (Mary Marjorie) of Union Mills, Dave (Loretta) of Union Mills, Howard (Barbara) of Westville, Roy (Lillian) of Westville, Richard (Dori) Scarborough of Union Mills; eight daughters, Phyllis Reeves of Union Mills, Mary (Mike) Bornell of LaPorte, Harriet (Richard) Lute of Hanna, Donna (Dave) Doepping of Union Mills, Sally Scarborough of Chesterton, Jennie (Michael) Niksch of Westville, Debbie Scarborough of Union Mills, Edie (Gene) Foreman of Valparaiso; 49 grandchildren; 84 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great grandchildren; a sister; Cleo Awald of Walkerton and daughter-in-law, Linda Scarborough of LaCrosse.

She was also preceded in death by a son; Raymond; seven grandchildren, four sisters; four brothers, and son-in-law, Lee Reeves.

Harriet was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Union Mills. She was a homemaker.

Funeral services, Rev. John Beehler officiating, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 14 at the Cutler Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Union Mills Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Monday, April 13, at the Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte.
