Porter resident Clarence J. Zaagman, Sr. died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009. He was
78.
He was born on July 29, 1931 in Pieterburen, The Netherlands. He is survived
by daughter Sadie Steciuch (husband Florian) of Chesterton; son Clarence
Zaagman, Jr. (wife Laura) of Lombard, Ill.; grandchildren Brett Winnell
(Melody), Alexander, Lydia and Christian Steciuch, Michaela, Kenzie,
Garrett, and Austin Zaagman; six great-grandchildren; and brothers Tony
Zaagman (Margaret) and Dick Zaagman (Florence).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Bakker Zaagman, in 2000.
He was a resident of Porter since 2000, having moved from May-wood, Ill. In
1996, he retired from the Gower Schools in Burr Ridge, Ill., where he was a
custodian. A veteran of the Korean War, he attended the 1st United Methodist
Church of Chesterton.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 8 p.m. from the White-Love
Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton, with Rev. Jan Van Lear
officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until
the time of service at the White-Love Funeral Home. An additional visitation
will be held Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Knollcrest Funeral Home,
Lombard, Ill. Burial will be Thursday in Park Forest, Ill. For information,
