Bonnie J. Hopper dies at 84

Bonnie J. Hopper, 84, of Valparaiso, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at her home.

She was born November 24, 1924 in Newark, Ohio, the daughter of Elmer and Lillian (Birky) Hartman, both of whom preceded her in death..

On April 4, 1974 in Chesterton, she married Jack Hopper who survives.

Also surviving are 3 children, Cheryl (Roger) Hickman, Diane Lynn Walker, Jerry (Michelle) Millender; 1 stepson, John (Nellie) Hopper and her beloved pets Nikki and Rusty; 4 grandchildren, Rob (Laurie) Kamick, Sally Hickman, Rachel and Jacob Millender; 3 step-grandchildren, Kimberly Hopper (Chad) Brentlinger, Sonya Parker and Jason Berryhill; 1 great-grandchild, Robbie Karnick; 1 step-great grandson, John Tyler Brentlinger; 2 surrogate daughters, Elvira McEwan and Sue Longbehn.

She was also preceded in death by first husband Gerald Kenneth Millender of Mr. Jerry’s Beauty Salon.

Bonnie attended San Diego State University, was a homemaker, a member of St. John’s United Church in Chesterton, was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, President of Wm A Wirt PTA, volunteered at Duneland Resale in Chesterton, Christian Woman’s Club, volunteered at local hospitals as a Pink Lady and the Elks Club in Gary. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, pets, delivering cookies and decorating for Christmas and all holidays and visiting the Driver family in Del Mar, Calif.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. with visitation 1 hour prior to services Saturday, January 3 at St. John’s United Church in Chesterton, 225 W. Lincoln Ave., Chesterton.
