Opal Margaret Landeck dies at 86

Opal Margaret Landeck, 86, of Porter, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008 at the VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso.

She was born February 20, 1922 in Paxton, Ill., the daughter of Frank and Lillian (Courson) Fiscus.

On May 30, 1941 in Buckley, Ill., she married Louis W. Landeck, who preceded her in death in 2005.

She is survived by four children, Linda Long of Porter Beach, Lu Krieger-Blake (Brian Blake) of Valparaiso, Sheryl (James) Summers of Libertyville, Ill., Bill Landeck (Eileen Ostrowski) of Cincinnati, Ohio; special friend, Rollie Good; two brothers, John (Kay) Fiscus of St. Joseph, Ill., Robert (Sylvia) Fiscus of Loveland, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Alan Long (Kate Annie) of Santa Cruz, Calif., Philip (Melanie Liu) Long of Palo Alto, Calif., Gena Banta-Long, Wendy Banta-Long and Marita Banta-Long, all of Porter Beach; Kevin (Dana) Krieger of Chesterton, Jim (Elizabeth) Summers of Raleigh, N.C., Christopher (Molly) Summers of Valparaiso, Alysha Summers of Libertyville, Ill. and two great-grandchildren, Raphael and Waverly Long of Palo Alto, Calif.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Wanda Dillon and two brothers, Jerry and Harley Fiscus.

Opal graduated from Paxton High School. She had served as secretary for her church for many years and currently attended St. John’s United Church in Chesterton. She took special joy gathering with her friends in their Hand & Foot Card Group and will be fondly remembered for her beautiful garden flowers.

Following cremation at Angelcrest Crematory a memorial visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Friday, November 28 at Valparaiso First Presbyterian Church, 3401 N. Valparaiso St., with memorial service beginning at 11 a.m., Rev. Katie Lindberg officiating.
