Francis Frank Bernard Evans, Jr. dies at 80

Francis “Frank” Bernard Evans Jr., of Portage, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2008. He was 80.

Frank was born on June 3, 1927 in Chicago, the son of Francis Bernard and Anna (Devlin). Evans, both of whom preceded him in death.

Survivors include his life companion, Louise Kaufman of Portage; sons, Kelly (Melissa) Evans of Crown Point, and Michael Evans of Liberty, Mo.; daughters, Linda Murchek of Lewiszille, Texas, Nancy (Skip) Highwood of Chesterton, Debra Harder of Glendale, Ariz. and Susan Evans of Lewiszille, Texas; brother, Robert Evans of Tinley Park, Ill.; sister, Peg Sullivan of Crown Point; 14 grandchildren, Ron Murchek, Rich (Tamra) Murchek, Nicole (Mike) Moskalick, Gwen (Ken) O’Connor, Stacy Brizinski, Angela (Joseph) O’Rourke, Cortney Murchek, Tom Harder, Ryan Murchek, Andrea Harder, Melissa Evans, Rachel Forney, Amanda Evans and Jessica Evans; and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many other loving friends and family.

He was also preceded in death by three sisters.

Frank graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was retired from AT&T Telephone Company as a Lineman/Supervisor. Frank was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was very accomplished as an artist and had a great passion for painting. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and a Green Bay Packers fan.

A Mass of Christian Burial, Fr. Douglas Mayer officiating, will be held at noon Tuesday, June 3, in Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 356 W. Seven Mile Rd., Valparaiso. Cremation will follow services.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Monday, June 2, at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 6941 Central Ave., Portage.
