Anthony Zelencik dies at 63

Anthony J. Zelencik, of Porter, Indiana passed away on January 28, 2008 at his residence. He was 63.

Anthony was born on July 6, 1944 in Studguard, Ark., the son of Anthony S. and Mary (Matej) Zelencik, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Donnica (Donahue) Zelencik; son, Jeff Zelencik of Portage; step-son, Kevin Howell of Porter; sister, Mary Beth (Richard) Moran of Westville, and sister-in-law Jodi Zelencik of Portage and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, David Zelencik and sister, Christina Dragos.

Anthony was a rigger at ISPAT Inland at the East Chicago Plant and retired in 2001. He was a member of the United Steel Workers of America; he served in the US Air Force and was stationed in Spain. Anthony was very involved with the DeMotte Little League for over 13 years coaching, umpiring and as president. He umpired for semi pro leagues and many other leagues including high school and State Park Little League locally. He was and avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors.

Funeral Services, Deacon Bob Bonta officiating, will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage.

Visitation will be from 4-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
