Andrew J. Knipp 'Bunny' dies at 77

Andrew J. Knipp, age 77, of Chesterton, passed away on Saturday January 19, 2008.

He was born on April 9, 1930 in Gary, the son of the late Andrew and Anna Knipp.

He is survived by step-sons, Gerald Fischer and James Fischer of Fla.; sisters, Ann Rinchak of Westville, Theresa DiFatta of Gary, Harriet (Robert) Hill of Gary and Shirley (Michael) Corey of Valparaiso; good friends Darlene and Bob Kress and his faithful dog Mitzi. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Bertha, and his wife Shirley in 1999.

He served as a Marine from Feb. 10, 1954 to Feb. 9, 1956 during the Korean War. Andy was a member of the American Legion Post 170 and Bethlehem Union 6787. He worked for the Post-Tribune for many years and then retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1993. Andy enjoyed the outdoors and had a great love for animals.

A memorial service, Fr. Doug Mayer officiating, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 24, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Visitation will be at the funeral home prior to the service from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. (time of service on Thursday). Interment of ashes will follow the services at Chesterton Cemetery.

Memorials for Andy may be made in the form of masses to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church or to a local Humane Society.
