Roger Beam, Sr. dies at 62

Chesterton resident Roger L. Beam, Sr., 62, died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at the Wintersong Village Nursing Home in Knox.

He was born July 9, 1944, in Dover, N.J., the son of Randolph and Verna (Scheer) Beam, who preceded him in death.

He is survived two sons, Paul Beam of Chesterton and Roger (wife Pamela) Beam, Jr. of Valparaiso; a daughter, Verna Lankford of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Randy (wife Kate) Beam of Star City.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Beam.

He served in the U.S. Army with the 585th Engineers and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was employed as a truck driver for Miller Transportation and enjoyed bowling.

Funeral services were scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe St. in Valparaiso. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.
