Ona Janusaitis dies at 89

Ona Janusaitis, of Portage, passed away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007 in Portage. She was 89.

She was born May 9, 1918 in Lithuania the daughter of the late Juozas and Jysliavaite Dambrauskas.

On Oct. 20, 1951 in Crown Point, she married Juozas Janusaitis, who survives in Portage.

She is also survived by a son, Rich (Jeannie) Janusaitis of Porter; daughters, Jane Urycki of Lake Station and Irene (Richard) Macys of South Bend; grandchildren, Chrissy, Joe, Steve, Bob, Diana, Rich, Debbie and Lenny and 12 great-grandchildren.

Ona was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church. Ona and her family were forced to flee Lithuania during World War II. Her first daughter, Jane, was born in Lithuania. Irene, her second daughter, was born while the family lived in Germany. Ona and her family eventually made it to the United States in 1949 and lived in Gary, moving to Portage in 1997. She was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church.

A memorial service was held Sunday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage.
