Clarence Flitter dies at 91

Clarence Flitter, of Valparaiso, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, at 12:10 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2001. He was 91.

He was born Aug. 3, 1915 in Wanatah, the son of Leo and Dora Flitter, both of whom preceded him in death.

On Jan. 20, 1936, he married Alice Gast at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Valparaiso. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in Jan. 2006. She survives in Valparaiso.

He is also survived two children, Donna (Tom) Christy of Valparaiso and Janice Kosecki of LaPorte.

Other survivors are three sisters, Bernice Rhoda of San Bernardino, Calif., Leona Biggs of Valparaiso and Doris (Les) Friday of Chesterton; nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; two sisters-in-law, Loretta Knoblock of Valparaiso and Eileen Gast of Michigan City and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Goodwin in 1998 and a sister, Annabell Flitter in 1963.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 6 at Dykes Funeral Home, 2305 N. Campbell, Valparaiso and at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, with Rosary at 6 p.m. at Dykes Funeral Home.
