Barbara Winslow Spencer dies at 86

Barbara Winslow Spencer, 86, of Lebanon, Ind. passed away April 21, 2007 at the Homewood Health Care Center in Lebanon.

She was born Feb. 23, 1921 in New Port, Rhode Island, the daughter of Clifton Allen and Marian (Winslow) Barrus, both of whom preceded her in death.

On Aug. 21, 1946 in Washington D.C., she married Harry Spencer, who survives.

She is also survived by two daughters, Beverly (Christian) Litscher of Lebanon and Carolyn (Douglas) Hren of Fox River Grove, Ill.; a son Richard (Marcy) Spencer of Clarenden Hills, Ill., formerly of Chesterton; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Fred Arthur Cooley.

Barbara was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hot Springs, Ark. She was a graduate of Blandensburg Mo. in 1939 and then went to Garfield Memorial Hospital in Washington D.C. to nursing school where she graduated in 1941. She was in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946.

There will be no services. Cremation is scheduled.

Arrangements are under the direction of Russell and Hitch Funeral Home, 223 N. Meridian St., Lebanon, IN 46052.
