State Rep. Ed
Soliday (R-Valparaiso) was recently appointed as chair of the House
Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications Committee.
“There are many
challenges that result from the rapidly changing world of energy and
telecommunications,” Soliday said. “I believe my experience on the Water
Infrastructure Task Force and the Roads and Transportation Committee has
prepared me well, and I am excited to take on this new role and continue
Indiana’s momentum.”
Soliday previously
served as chair of the House Roads and Transportation Committee for eight
years. During this time, he championed the largest, fully-funded
infrastructure investment plan in Indiana history. Soliday said the new
chair, State Rep. Holli Sullivan (R-Evansville), is well-suited for the job.
“Holli’s experience
as an engineer makes her uniquely qualified for this position,” Soliday
said. “I am happy to see someone of her talent filling this role, and I am
eager to see all that she accomplishes as chairwoman.”
Standing committee
appointments are made biennially after each election. Committee hearings,
which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, can be viewed live
online at iga.in.gov
The site also
provides committee calendars and meeting agendas.
According to
Soliday, committees provide members of the public, experts and lawmakers an
opportunity to testify and share input on legislative proposals, which often
impact local communities.
The 2019
legislative session begins Jan. 3 and by law must conclude by April 30.
