Rally Tuesday at Statehouse for public school funding

The Indiana Coalition for Public Education (ICPE) will be holding a rally in support of public schools and public school students at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at the South Atrium of the Statehouse in Indianapolis.

In the closing days of the 2019 session of the General Assembly, with the budget bill determining school funding now in its final negotiations, “supporter of public schools will visit legislators and make their voices heard in support of adequate school funding,” the ICPE said. “Despite various proposed increases, Indiana remains at the bottom of various national lists for school funding and teacher pay.”

“Supporters will be wearing red for public ed,” the ICPE said.

Scheduled speakers at the rally include the following: Dr. Jennifer McCormick, Indiana State Superintendent of Public Instruction; Teresa Meredith, president of the Indiana State Teachers Association; GlenEva Dunham, president of the American Federation of Teachers Indiana; Cathy Fuentes, parent and school board member; Dr. Ramon Botts of Concerned Clergy; and legislators to be announced.
