The first public
meeting on the property-tax referendum on the ballot in the May 7 municipal
primary election will be held tonight, at 7 p.m., at the Baugher
Center, 100 W. Indiana Ave. in Chesterton.
The date listed in
a front-page story in Fridayís edition of the Chesterton Tribune was
in error, based on incorrect information provided by the Duneland School
If passed, the
referendum will allow for a continuation of an additional property-tax rate
of not more than 22 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. Revenues from the
additional property tax would be used to recruit and retain teachers and
administrators will be on hand tonight at the Baugher Center to answer the
publicís specific questions about the referendum and the use of revenues
which the current additional property-tax has provided.
