Correction: Public meeting on referendum is tonight

Back To Front Page

The first public meeting on the property-tax referendum on the ballot in the May 7 municipal primary election will be held tonight, at 7 p.m., at the Baugher Center, 100 W. Indiana Ave. in Chesterton.

The date listed in a front-page story in Fridayís edition of the Chesterton Tribune was in error, based on incorrect information provided by the Duneland School Corporation.

If passed, the referendum will allow for a continuation of an additional property-tax rate of not more than 22 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. Revenues from the additional property tax would be used to recruit and retain teachers and staff.

Teachers and administrators will be on hand tonight at the Baugher Center to answer the publicís specific questions about the referendum and the use of revenues which the current additional property-tax has provided.
