US domestic steel shipments down in February

The American Iron and Steel Institute is reporting that in February, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,744,304 net tons (NT), a 4.2-percent decrease from January but a 2.9-percent increase over the year-ago period.

In the year-to-date shipments are 15,824,061 NT, a 4.4 percent increase over the year-ago.

Significant month-over-month changes in February include the following: hot-rolled sheets, up 2 percent; cold-rolled sheets, down 3 percent; and hot-dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 4 percent.
