Voice of the People
I and many others were very much saddened by the unexpected death of
Helen E. Dancey. The environmental world has lost two of its vital
spokespersons recently: Helen and Sallie Jacobs. Both of them touched me
deeply, changing my understanding and values to realize the intricate,
symbiotic relationships all of us experience with the rest of Nature. While
Sallie was locally active, Helen was worldwide.
Helen was extraordinarily instrumental as a Board member of the Porter
County Park Foundation and will be greatly missed. All of this, of course,
is understatement to anyone who was close to her. She was a gracious,
intelligent, sharing woman; a woman who traveled, volunteered, taught; a
woman who had time for anyone with a question or a comment; a woman who
raised the quality of life for the people around her; a woman who will be
mightily missed but who left her mark on all.
Great work, Helen!
