There’s going to be a lot of paving in the Town of Chesterton this year.

At its meeting Monday night, the Town Council voted 4-0 to approve a “somewhat prioritized” list of paving projects to be pursued with an earmark of $202,034.33 in CEDIT funds.

The seat of former member Dave Cincoski, R-3rd, remains vacant.

Street Commissioner John Schnadenberg’s list:

•Colonial Drive.

•Sandpiper Drive from Michael Drive north 925 feet.

•South Jackson Blvd. from West Morgan Ave. to West Porter Ave.

•200E south of 1050N.

•Fifth Street from Broadway to West Morgan Ave.

•An alley off North Calumet Road from Michigan Ave. to River Ave.

•Chestnut Blvd. from Greenmeadow Lane to Fifth Street.

•Grant Ave. from Fourth Street to the Street Department.

•From the 600 block of 20th Street to Union Ave., then Union Ave. to 21st Street.

•Union Ave. from 21st Street to 23rd Street.

•Joliet Street from Ind. 149 to Tower Street.

•Tower Street from Joliet Street to 1050N.

•Louisa Lane.

•19th Street from West Porter Ave. to Washington Ave.

•Beverly Drive and Joal Drive.

•South Jackson Blvd. from West Porter Ave. to Portage Ave.

Schnadenberg warned the council that not all the paving projects on the list may be completed this year, depending on how the asphalt bids come in. Schnadenberg also noted that he wants to save around $10,000 for crack sealing and hopes to do some sidewalk replacement this season as well.

Members did vote 4-0 to authorize Schnadenberg to go out for bid on asphalt, with the bids to be opened May 10.

In addition to the CEDIT-funded projects, there are three stimulus-funded ones: West Porter Ave. between 15th and 23rd streets; 11th Street between West Porter Ave. and 1100N; and Wabash Ave. from Fourth Street to Waverly Road.

In addition, the Redevelopment Commission has released a maximum of $200,000 to allow the Street Department to pave several roadways in the Downtown: Broadway from South Calumet Road to Fourth Street; Second Street from Broadway to West Indiana Ave.; Third Street from Broadway to West Indiana Ave.; and all portions of South Calumet Road which will not be re-paved as part of the Downtown sanitary sewer replacement and separation project.

Fifth Street

In other business, members voted 4-0 to take under advisement the bids for the Fifth Street sidewalk project:

Earlier this year the council earmarked $85,000 in CEDIT funds for the project.

Phase I Bids, 15th Street

Members also voted 4-0 to take under advisement the bids for Phase I of the 15th Street municipal facility project. In Phase I, a salt storage building and cold storage building will be constructed on the grounds of the former United Tractor property at 116 N. 15th St.

The bids:

•LaPorte Construction Company Inc. of LaPorte: $912,230.
