The Chesterton Stormwater Management Board has awarded the contract for the 11th Street lift station to G.E. Marshall of Valparaiso, with a low bid of $153,920.

The lift station--like its sister lift station recently completed in the alley behind Valís Famous Pizza & Grinders at Broadway and 11th Street--will drain a flood-prone alley in the area of 11th Street and West Porter Ave. and pump the runoff to a stormwater sewer on Lincoln Ave.

Proceeds from the $880,000 stormwater bond issued later in 2011 will pay for the lift station.

November in Review

In November the Stormwater Utility ran a a deficit of $13,211 and in the year-to-date is running a deficit of $20,866.
