Spring Cleanup Week
in the Town of Chesterton will be held next week, Monday, April 16, through
Friday, April 20.
So Street
Commissioner John Schnadenberg announced at the Town Council’s meeting
Monday night.
As always,
residents are asked to separate their curbside piles of brush and leaves, as
two different pieces of apparatus are used in the collection. Piles which
are not separated will be left at curbside.
While on the
subject of spring, Schnadenberg noted that this past winter was
significantly harsher than the previous one.
How much harsher?
In 2016-17, the
Street Department was called out only half a dozen times to clear snow and
ice. In 2017-18, the Street Department was called out 33 times and used
2,565 tons of salt.
“The Street
Department did a superb job this winter,” said Member Jim Ton, R-1st. “Kudos
to all the guys who put in the extra time. And to the leadership.”
