Political signs found in rights-of-way will be seized

Political candidates have not quite two daysí grace, before the Town of Chesterton code enforcement officer begins confiscating illegally cited signs on Thursday.

Acting Building Commissioner Mike Orlich told the Town Council at its meeting Monday night that political signs may not be placed on public rights-of-way.

Figure it this way, Orlich said: if your political sign is planted at least 15 feet off the roadway, youíre probably safe.

Starting on Thursday, however, any sign found placed in a public right-of-way will be seized, Orlich said.
